New First

One of the things that Henry and I do together is try out different restaurants around town. After last nights excursion, I decided that I should start a new trend on my blog - writing about the restaurants that we visit.

Last night Henry and I went out with a girl from his work. She wanted to treat us to dinner to celebrate our marriage. It was mariachi night at Mi Tierra so a live band played almost the entire time we were there. When we first arrived, a woman came around and asked us what we were celebrating and wrote it on a little paper. A few minutes later, our names and the fact we were celebrating our marriage was announced on stage in Spanish. One of the girls who was with us was celebrating her birthday and she joined us to receive a sombrero, and a balloon. She motioned us to follow her into the crowd and began to dance in a line of people around the room while the band played. We waved our balloons and used them to form a tunnel for the other people to dance through. It was so much fun!

The food was amazing as well. All the meat was tender - the sausage was my favorite. It tasted like candy.
Although it was hard to converse between eating so much food and the loud mariachi band, the conversation was good as well.

Whenever we go out with people we meet around the city, it is fun to hear their stories. This girl's parents were first generation Americans from Mexico, who worked their way up. Now they own property and she gets to benefit from their hard labour. She also is a smart hard working woman and talked about how to live life, "because that is all you got". I do not know what you think about "Mexicans," but I thought it was a neat example of someone living the American dream. My own Grandfather was a first generation American whose parents had moved here from Germany - and worked hard to make a living for themselves. I am now reaping the benefits of that generation's hard work.

America has a lot of opportunities for sure, however after living the good life, there still seems to be something lacking...People still search to make meaning for their lives, and when death hits - it often causes one to question what is there to truly live for? I am curious, to hear what my readers have found to be the answer to that ultimate life question....Feel free to post!

Love you all and Hope you do find the meaning to life this Christmas that lasts beyond the New Year.
